Rafa and Juani, from the restaurant Mesón Ca Rafel in Benimantell, have already spent 34 years in the world of restoration. Their history started in a little establishment that they rent in Guadalest, where they remained 29 years. For fate’s reasons, the sale of a restaurant in Benimantell together with the necessity of having their own establishment, let them to start a new business, a feat with 5 years of age: Mesón Ca Rafel. Curiously enough, the name of their restaurant is due to the name people used to say when they referred to their first restaurant. Everybody would say, “Let’s go to Ca Rafel”, and for this reason, they decided to maintain the name that all their customs and friends had allocated: Mesón Ca Rafel.

Besides, they included the name “Mesón” as a memory of the previous restaurant which was established in that place in Benimantell, called Mesón Aitana.

Hours:

On Monday it is closed for weekly break, except for public holiday.

Opened from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

They also open on Saturday night, but we do recommend reserving beforehand.

This restaurant has an estimated capacity of 80 diners.

Food Style:

Although there are traditional dishes of the mountains of Alicante, we need to mention the innovative cuisine that has been developed over the years in this restaurant of Benimantell.

Before starting, they will recommend some Alicante or Valencian wine, and afterwards, Rafa will reward you with some slices of bread and a little bottle of olive oil from Guadalest Valley in order to take the edge off your hunger.

You should start off by tasting their assorted starters (more than 35 different dishes). Honestly, don’t go over the line because these starters are so delicious that you could eat all of them and you would lose the chance to savour other great meals, such as sirloin medallions dressed with wild mushroom sauce, sirloin with orange (home-grown oranges), and of course, we cannot forget their rice dishes, for instance, casseroled rice with cold meat from the Valley of Guadalest, soupy rice with beans, cardoons and turnips, or ‘Olleta de Blat’, the local food par excellence.

For those who have a sweet tooth, Juani, from the restaurant Mesón Ca Rafel, will bake some homemade desserts, like coffee custard, almond custard, cheese and cherry cake, egg roll with vanilla cream, fig cake, chocolate and hazelnut custard and Xixona nougat biscuit glace with hot chocolate, among others.
